The first collection of products by Montespan Design provides a sensory way to experience the story of the passionate and long romance between King Louis XIV and his love Athénaïs de Montespan. The language of their romance was romantic scent, the enjoyment of fine food, the creation of visually stunning palaces and gardens, precious stones, and of course a magnetic attraction that resulted in seven children. While candles and paper formed the basis of this collection previously, we have branched out a bit and hope you enjoy these new ways to experience their romance!
Please also see The Montespan Collection at Vervain Fabrics, particularly our pattern Porcelain Trianon which was inspired by our candle of that same scent.

CANDLES AND DIFFUSERS
CANDLES
Imagine the romantic scent of tuberose wafting through your living space, which King Louis XIV and Athénaïs de Montespan experienced as they walked through the gardens of their Porcelain Trianon. In our latest vessel design for this candle scent, The Porcelain Trianon™, we have captured the vibe of the storied small jewel-like palace that Louis XIV built in 1670 as a passion nest for himself and his love, Athénaïs. (She had seven children by him…could this palace with its two mirrored-ceiling beds be the reason?). The design of this new version channels the strict blue and white theme of the palace, with the fleurette design inspired by design elements inlaid in the only surviving piece of furniture from that building, a desk. Please also see our fabric honoring this palace, exclusively at Vervain Fabrics, a Fabricut company.

PLATES
This splatterware pattern, called The Porcelain Trianon™, tells the story of the exquisite small palace Louis XIV built as a retreat for himself and his love, Athénaïs de Montespan, in 1670. A color bomb of blue and white chinoiserie decoration, the ridge of the roof was adorned in French faience versions of Chinese export porcelain birds and vases. Some fragments of the faience later found in the soil show that some patterns were splatterware. The freshness of this 17th century design in the 21st century shows its staying power. Please also see our fabric honoring this palace, exclusively at Vervain Fabrics, a Fabricut company.

Can be used as a platter or tray for cheese, small black and white condiment bowls, hors d’oeuvres or even as a dinner plate. Please also see our fabric pattern, Haute Stuff, for Vervain Fabrics in Fabricut showrooms and also shown on this website.
